How to Use This Calculator
What is a parlay calculator?
A parlay calculator combines the odds of multiple bets (legs) into the parlay's overall odds and shows the potential payout if every leg wins. It is the standard tool for sizing parlay bets before placing them.
A parlay is a bet on the outcome of two or more events. Each bet within a parlay is a leg. For the parlay to win, every leg must win. If even one leg loses, the parlay loses, regardless of how the other legs settle. Because parlays require multiple outcomes, the payout on a winning parlay is higher than the payout on any of the individual legs.
Formula
Worked example
A 3-leg parlay: leg 1 at -110, leg 2 at +120, leg 3 at -150. Decimal conversions: 1.91, 2.20, 1.67.
Why parlay math matters for sports bettors
Parlays are high-vig products. Sportsbooks add additional margin at the parlay level on top of the vig already baked into each leg. The expected value of a parlay built from independent legs is typically meaningfully worse than placing the same legs as straight bets.
Parlays do have legitimate use cases. Profit boosts, parlay-specific promotions, and same-game parlays with positive correlation can shift the math in the bettor's favor.

Common mistakes
- Treating parlays as +EV by default. Standard cash parlays are -EV. The structure compounds the vig. Parlays are profitable only with promotional support or with materially +EV individual legs.
- Building parlays from correlated legs. Most sportsbooks do not allow correlated parlays from the same game in standard parlay tickets. The same-game parlay product handles correlation differently. See our SGP Correlation Calculator for the math.
- Underestimating the probability drop with each leg. Adding a leg with a 60 percent implied probability to a parlay that was already at 70 percent reduces the total to 42 percent. Each additional leg compounds the drop.
- Chasing parlay payouts with degenerate sizing. Parlay variance is brutal. The peak payouts are rare and the losing tickets pile up fast. Size accordingly.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a parlay calculator?
A parlay calculator multiplies the odds of multiple bets together to show the combined parlay odds and the potential payout. The DarkHorse Odds Parlay Calculator supports up to 12 legs.
How do you calculate parlay odds?
Convert each leg's American odds to decimal, multiply the decimals together, then convert the product back to American odds.
How do you calculate parlay payout?
Multiply the stake by the combined decimal odds, then subtract the stake to get the net profit.
How many legs can I parlay?
The DarkHorse Odds Parlay Calculator supports 2 to 12 legs. Most US sportsbooks allow up to 12 or 15 legs on a single parlay. Beyond about 5 legs, expected value typically deteriorates rapidly because of compounded vig.
Why are parlay payouts so high?
Because the implied probability of winning is the product of each leg's probability, which gets smaller as legs are added. A 5-leg parlay of even-money legs has only a 3.125% implied probability of winning. The payout scales inversely to the probability.
Are parlays a good bet?
Without a promotion or correlation edge, parlays are typically negative expected value. Vig compounds across legs. They are popular for the entertainment value of large payouts, not because the math favors the bettor.
What is a same game parlay?
A parlay made entirely of legs from the same game. Same game parlays often involve correlated legs, which sportsbooks price differently than independent parlays. Use the SGP Correlation Calculator to back out the book's pricing assumptions.
